Ch 5
Between 500 B.C.E and 500 C.E., inequality became more of a tragedy in Eurasia and Northern Africa. Between sexes, women were seen as less of person. Men were more superior in every way possible. Women did not have the same rights as men, in fact they had less rights just for being female. There was also inequality between people as a whole. Many countries used the caste system. In order of highest to lowest of people were the out-castes, peasants, merchants, warriors, then priests. One could not jump from one caste to another. You were simply born into a caste, unable to get out or move higher up in the social pyramid. Priests were at the highest level so this shows that religion was heavily followed during this time. Warriors were also high in the caste system because they fought for their country and everyone in it. Merchants were like the middle class. They sold and traded things to survive and make a fair amount of money. Then were the peasants and out castes who just did't fit in with the rest of the people. These low class people were most likely poor and didn't have luxuries within their life times. These inequalities within the civilizations helped form the way we see each other today.
